Revisiting the forks

The front forks are a vital component for the steering of the motorcycle, second to the steering cone.
Lucky for me in the history of this blog, i managed to dig up the fork level and viscosity needed. 15w, 255ml on each leg and 190mm from the top forks fully compressed with springs removed.

The oil seal retainer ring were too ridiculously corroded. Shops did not carry the part nor willing to order them for me. Lucky for me, i had a spare shadow ace750 fork lying around and the fitting of its retainer rings were spot on! phew.

I went with belray 15w fork oil 1L. Cost me $15 from lim ah boy.

Ybr250 spark plugs

The spark plug of a ybr250 is not available easily in singapore.

The proper part is
94700-00877(NGK DR8EA)

Commonly available is the d8ea
The problem is that without the R(resistor) there would or could produce electrical interference that could affect the cdi or any electrical components

Another option given would be DPR8EA
The problem is that being projected, the reach might be too deep. If a vehicle is not designed to take a projected spark plug, it could lead to engine problems.

Always avoid using iridium spark plugs on small displacements engine. It could lead to glazing of the piston. Proved many times and again.

I imported my spark plugs from the usa. Thanks to freight forwarding that makes it possible so cheaply.I ordered 8. Aplenty to last years to come.

Paint job

What a sore resemblance of a school learner bike. Behold the red colour painted by aerosol cans without a proper clear coat. Red is colour that fades most rapidly due to the short wavelength that absorbs uv rays. Here are the photos of such a transformation. Enjoy

New beginnings

Sorry for the long absence. I purchased another ybr250. But this time around, it's a 2013 model. Seems similar to what I had bought before.

I needed a spare motorcycle with cheap spare parts. And when I saw this on sale at a good price, I grabbed it up.

Similar to the previous purchase, she had leaky forks, a worn clutch, loose head bearings and worn brake disc that was much expected. However the engine was silent which gained me the confidence to get her .

Here is the photo of the bike when first taken in by the shop

                                                                      Tire depth tool

Tire depth is an imporant factor for safety. Using a Tire depth tool only works on a tire with a central thead. Like the michelin pilot street, there  are are tabs in the grooves to show the wear limit.

I did like the michelin pilot street as its agile to handle. But due to the rounded profile, i do not feel as rooted as i should.

Stp Oil Treatment

Surprisingly, there are many products sold in malaysia that is not shown online.
One of which is stp oil treatment for motorcycles that retails for 6rm for 60ml.
It was extremely thick like a high grade honey. Unfortunately I have thrown away the bottle before I added it in.
Oil treatment meant for cars

Despite the oil being "thicker", i didnt feel any difference.

It was about 100km on my new oil when I was in a crawling 1 hour jam and at some point my clutch started to slip. I read that I should learn to just use the clutch and gear 1 when moving to prevent this.
